As an ex-scientist, Sears dedicates a great amount of time to discussion of the science on which his theory was based. Basically, The Zone Diet is a "metabolic state in which the body works at peak efficiency," and the metabolic state is created by having meals with a set ratio of carbohydrates, protein, and fat.
